THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES // 4 ROOM DECOR IDEAS YOU NEED TO TRY!

Let's start with a drumroll! Four delicious projects you can use to give your room a glam update! These are all whimsical projects which add a classy or dreamy flair and they are all terribly simple. I've gotten inspired by Bando so much recently, decided on buying their gorgeous agenda and while that arrives, I'll make do with some DIY bando themed projects. That being said, Kate Spade is still on my wishlist but her lovely storage boxes are way out of my budget considering all of the other art supplies I'm continually purchasing. That is where Gold Spray Paint comes in - our Xena Warrior Princess for everything DIY and everything Kate Spade inspired.

We are making everything from dainty bell jars to house your prettiest accessories or craft supplies to hidden hollow book storage that is so cheery it will always put you in a good mood. Next we'll be moving onto dressing your ceiling with some greens that can are easy to install and easy to remove. Great for parties or just for seasonal room decor for a fresh burst of the outdoors :a hanging origami garden! In the end, we'll wield that gorgeous can of gold spray paint, add hot pink and orange accents and with a little help from Ikea, craft some fabulous storage to hide all your treasures in.

Let's get started, shall we?

DIY WHIMSICAL BELL JAR

You'll need:

-An empty glass jar.
We will be inverting this later so make sure there is no text embossed at the bottom of the jar. If there is you might probably have to cover it up with either fabric or wrapping paper. I used an empty tomato puree jar and it was just the right size to upcycle without any text at the bottom.

-A saucer or the lid of a discarded container. I used the lid of a cotton swabs container.

-A ring or a small bauble. You could use a decorative bead or faux pearls

-Heavy-duty glue/glue gun

-Lace or washi tape

What you'll do:

1.Begin by sanitizing the jar and the lid and then drying it. Next invert it and eyeball the center of the base. Glue down the ring or the faux pearl at the center.

2.If you're using a saucer, skip this step but if you're using a lid then, again, invert it and along the circumference run some lace or washi tape to add a touch of fancy. Additionally you can also spray paint the saucer/lid in a metallic color or neon.

3.Add in your display items to your new belljar. I think lipsticks would look the cutest as displays. What do you think? ;)

DIY HOLLOW BOOK STORAGE

Craft A Doodle Doo - 4 Chic Room Decor Ideas You NEED to TRY! #easy #chic #room #decor #ideas

Have you seen Bando's Florabunda print? I think it's absolutely fantastic. I also know I am a pretty good painter. So putting two and two together, I took up some old plain white fabric and got set to paint a slightly altered version of their Florabunda print. I'm in love with how it turned out but the party's not over yet!

What you'll need:

1.Printed fabric / wrapping paper to cover an old book.
2.Sharp craft knife/cutter with blade replacements.
3.Modpodge and an old paintbrush.
4.A cutting mat
5.More decorative paper/fabric for the backing. (I used adhesive glitter sheets)
6. Keepsakes you want to stow away in the hollow

What you'll do:

1.On the first page of the book, draw the dimensions for your hollow's width and length. The rectangle will be what we will be cutting out later.

2.Decide the depth that you want of the hollow. I wanted mine to be failry shallow because I wouldn't be putting any bulky keepsakes so I bunched up the pages into half-and-half clusters. The first half will be cut out to form the frame around the hollow. The second will form the back base for the hollow. If you want to put bulkier items inside go for a thicker frame to increase the hollow's depth.

3. Brush glue along all the exterior edges of both the clusters. You might want to use some plastic stationery clips to hold the pages in place as they dry.

4. Once dry, you'll want to cut along the perimeter of the rectangle you drew earlier. Go as slowly and patiently as you can to get really crisp and neat edges. You'll probably end up with some chipped paper here and there after you've done cutting so go over with the cutter again to get those chipped parts cleaned up.

5. Now take your backing paper and glue it down in place at the bottom of the hollow making sure it fits smugly and smooth it out.At this point, brush modpodge along the interior edges of the rectangle hollow to soften any paper spikes and hold the pages in place.

6. Wrap the exterior of your book now. I'd advise sizing up the cover slightly larger so that you can fold over the edges on the inside like I did below. I also introduced a fun print on the left  side which I found for free online to go with the whole bando feel. You can find similar quirky images as DesignLoveFest, my own freebie gallery for lots of print collections, this Pinterest board of mine. PS: This cute lipstick print is from Kelly at Studio DIY.

To finish up the bare look of the hollow's frame, I dressed it up in polka washi tape because that. Looks. Adorable.

The next step is optional but if you want: make an easy accordion fold envelope to hold extras on the side. Learn how to make one here.

I covered the back exterior of my book in abstract splashes of paint as well as more delightful prints.

And ta-da! You're done! (Add some gold ribbon detailing on the top just like the original Florabunda agenda at Bando and it looks a lot pricier ;) )Did I mention this is a gift for a currently very oblivious friend of mine? I'll add in some letters from my side for her to keep and I think she would just adoooore it.

DIY HANGING ORIGAMI GARDEN

Now that I think of it, this would look gorgeous paired with fairy lights as well.

What you'll need:

1,Craft Paper. I chose white because I wanted to give it a color dipped look. More on that later.
2.This template at Minieco.
3.Thread and needle
4.Scotch Magic Tape and Liquid Glue
5.Something to score the paper with, like a compass. (as in the tool, obviously)
6.Thread reels in assorted colors. Plus one in white/fishing line spool
6.Watercolors (optional)
7.Freshly plucked greens of your choice/ Faux greens

What You'll do;

1.Begin by following the directions given on the template site. Print out the template, score and fold along lines and begin to fashion the paper into shape A. Don't tighten both the bottom and top end because we don't want it to be closed at both ends but only at one so that we have the cutest paper pots on the planet in our palms.

2.Get going with the thread reels to make some tassels! Wind the thread across your four fingers looping it lots and lots of times till it is fairly dense; then leave a little extra thread at the end to tie up the top with. Gather the loops together and remove your fingers. Wind the extra thread in the end near top end of the looped bunch and glue the end of the thread in place. Snip off in one straight line the other end of the looped bunch and there ya go.

USER DISCRETION: Making the tassels and the thread can become a fun, mindless obsession while you watch TV or snack on what you shouldn't be snacking.

3. Set aside the tassels and paint watercolor at the closed ends of the origami pots to give it a dipped gradient feel and let dry.

4.When dry, affix the tassels to the closed end of the origami pots.

5.Mark of the length of the thread you want your pots to hang off from the ceiling. I have 6 pots and I chose two different heights for three and three each. Double up the length that you chose because we are gonna hang these babies up and using scotch, tape down the two ends of the thread at two diametrically opposite ends of the pot's rim.

6.Get a ladder (or make someone get on top of it if you have acrophobia while you launch orders at them) and take your time to style the arrangement of the origami planters. Once comfortable, tape with scotch again the mid-point of the thread to the ceiling. Tastefully arrange some greens inside and watch them happily dangle. :)

Note: They do not go off-balance because both the planters and the greens are quite weightless. If you use heavier stems though, there may be a chance that your planters go off balance.

DIY KATE SPADE STYLED STORAGE

This last DIY is more a list of tips rather than a step-by-step guide. If you've seen my DIY Vintage Storage tutorial here, you'll see that I used the same kind of boxes in addition to shoe boxes to dress up.
Craft A Doodle Doo - 4 Chic Room Decor Ideas You NEED to TRY! #easy #chic #room #decor #ideas

A few different styles that I did:

-One of the shoe boxes was already orange. I love orange and pink (cue: DIY above). I taped off  a part of the orange with masking tape and spray painted the rest of the box and the lid gold. I untaped in the end to reveal the orange strip which looks like a bright accent with all the gold.

-To have the same effect on a box which was an ugly blue, I spray painted all of it and glued on hot pink ribbon as an accent.

-For the smallest storage, I spray painted the box gold and wrapped up the lid with Ikea's patterned paper napkin. These comes in packs of 100/200 at the store, are fairly large in size and are really inexpensive but pair so well with metallic colors to give a rounded, chic, look.

-I spray painted another box a gleaming pink and freehanded polka dots with gold metallic paint.

-A final touch was to glue on a mirror from a discarded powder compact to the front of the box. I love using mirrors that come along with compacts because they are incredibly versatile. Here's how I made a DIY Ring Catch-All by upcycling another compact mirror.

-Coordinate other items by giving them a spray paint makeover too. I gave my Ikea scissors a makeover as well and popped it right next to the boxes in a pencil cup. :)

That's a wrap!
